Interpretation
Definitions
Unless otherwise stated, the following definitions apply to this document:
- "we", "us", and "our" are references to the Streetdance Teacher Training Company;
- "you", "your", “individual” and "customer" are references to the person whose personal data we are holding;

Any personal data which we collect, record or use in any way whether it is held on paper, on computer or other media will have appropriate safeguards applied to it to ensure that we comply with the Data Protection Act 1998. We fully endorse and adhere to the eight principles of Data Protection as set out in the Data Protection Act 1998.
The Data Protection Act 1998
The Data Protection Act 1998 seeks to strike a balance between the rights of individuals and the sometimes competing interests of those with legitimate reasons for using personal information.
The eight principles of good practice
Anyone processing personal information must comply with eight enforceable principles of good information handling practice.
These say that data must be:
1. Fairly and lawfully processed
2. Processed for limited purposes
3. Adequate, relevant and not excessive
4. Accurate and up to date
5. Not kept longer than necessary
6. Processed in accordance with the individual’s rights
7. Secure
8. Not transferred to countries outside European Economic area unless country has adequate protection for the individual.
What information do we collect?
We collect the following personal information from you when signing up to a course or service:
- Your personal details; these include your sex, gender, date of birth, etc.
- Your contact details; these include your name, e-mail, phone number(s) and address.
- An emergency contact’s details; these include their name and contact number.
- Details of dance any experience;
We only collect the information that we need in order to service you as customers.
How is the information stored?
The information is stored in a password protected database which only we have access to.
The password you use to log into your account is encrypting using a one-way encryption algorithm, which means that even we do not know what your password.
How do we use your information?
We agree never to sell, make public, or distribute your details that we keep with your membership records. This information is for internal use and will never leave the company. We may from time to time send you details of promotions and offers that we are running; however you can opt-out of this at any time (see below for details).
E-mail Marketing
We also adhere with the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003, especially the new rules which apply to all marketing messages sent by e-mail:
- The sender (us) must not conceal their identity and
- The sender (us) must provide a valid address for opt-out requests.
Any e-mail originating from the Streetdance Teacher Training Company will have a clear return address and an opt-out (or unsubscribe link) located at the bottom. We will never sell, make public, or distribute your e-mail address to any third party.
How can you opt-out of receiving internal marketing e-mail from us?
To opt-out of receiving any internal marketing e-mails from us, you can use the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of any marketing e-mail communications. Alternatively, send a blank e-mail to unsubscribe@streetdanceteachertraining.com, from the e-mail address you wish to opt-out.
Viewing and changing your personal details
You can view or change your personal details via your online account at any time. Simply go to
http://www.streetdanceteachertraining.com/account.php and log in using the e-mail and password you gave when you joined us. Alternatively, e-mail any amendments to
info@StreetDanceTeacherTraining.com and we can update them on your behalf. Please note, we may call you back to confirm your identity if you send any amendments via e-mail.
Requests for information
You have the right under the Data Protection Act to have a copy of any information we hold on you. This is known as the right of subject access. We ask that any requests you make for this information are made in writing to: The Data Protection Officer, The Streetdance Teacher Training Company, The Firestation, 82-84 York Road, Bedminster, Bristol, BS3 4AL.
When receive a subject access request, we will deal with it as promptly as possible, however, it may take up to 40 days from the date of receiving it to process. We will send you a copy of all the personal information we hold on you and a description of what we use this information for.
We reserve the right to charge a fee of up to £10 for responding to a request.
We may require proof of identity before releasing any information held on an individual and reserve the right to seek guidance from the Information Commissioner’s Office before proceeding with any request. If you are acting on behalf of an individual, you may have to prove you have their express consent, before any information is released. This is done to protect the individual in question and will be followed as pragmatically as we see fit.
Above all, it is our duty to protect the individual in question and releasing any information to a third party that, in our opinion, appears to be acting in an unscrupulous or deceptive manner, would be a breach of the protocols contained within this policy. With this in mind we reserve the right to act as cautiously as possible regarding the release of any information.
